Rain Garden

Design, Planting

Rain garden design to improve drainage from a long path into planted borders, with clay soil improved and bold, tough planting in warm tones thriving year round.

Susan designed part of her new landscaping to have a rain garden to drain a long path into an adjacent planted border.

The soil was found to be heavy clay and near the water table so some clay was removed and coarse gravel added with organic matter.

Tough plants with flowers in the yellow/orange/scarlet spectrum were planted as a trial and have survived two wet winters so far.

Part of a half acre garden in Stevington, Bedfordshire.
